On behalf of the Conference Committee members, Janne Bidenko, Rebecca Dunkley and Juanita McLeod, I would like to thank the donors and sponsors who made the Conference happen on 7 and 8 June 2014 at the Mercure Central Hotel in Sydney. A total of $35,000 was raised through Sponsors and Exhibitors who funded conference expenses, ensuring the best Outcomes were achieved for all participants.

The theme of this Conference is “Access to my World” and is to be officially opened on Saturday 7 June by Jim Longley CEO of Family and Community Services, Ageing and Disability. Previous National Deafblind conferences held in Australia have provided an evidence base for proof of need that this is the only forum in Australia where t=people who are Deafblind can participate actively and fully with support from family, friends, interpreters and volunteers every three to 4 years.

Sub-themes for presentations on Advocacy and Self-Advocacy, Accommodation, Community Access and Employment Support Programs, Assessments, Person-Centred thinking, talking and planning, Alternative and Augmentative Communication, Social Support, Assistive Technology, Universal Design and Social Media, Early Intervention, Education and Adult Learning have attracted highly qualified presenters to present workshops and papers.

Submission of Abstracts

Here in Sydney NSW, on 6-8 June 2014, the 9th National Deafblind Conference with the theme – ‘Access to my World’ - will be held at the Mercure Central Hotel on Broadway in the CBD. This Conference is being hosted by Forsight Australia in conjunction with Australia Deafblind Council (ADBC) and Deafblind Association (NSW) Inc. Following the Conference, the organisers are planning a Social Day, including a tour of Sydney on Monday 9 June 2014.

Forsight is the Convenor of this important national conference to be held at the Mercure Central Hotel in Sydney 6th to 8th June 2014.

As the focus is on Deafblindness, it is an important conference for people with Congenital Deafblindness and Acquired Deafblindness to attend to learn about on line communication / information technology. The conference will appeal to people with sensory disabilities, service providers and educators.
